What we use

We name all 236 ingredients we use

The whole list of what we put in, grouped into nine families, with how each one is pressed, dried or distilled.

The Yes list

Everything we put in, named and counted. The number beside each ingredient is how many of our 75 products use it.

What goes in

Turmeric you could hold. Almonds you could eat. Rose you could smell. Every ingredient below is one of those. The six we use most come first.

How we choose

Five rules decide what earns a place on the label:

  • Cold-pressed carrier oils: pressed without heat, so the oil keeps what heat would strip out
  • Whole botanicals: shade-dried and milled in small batches, not bought as extract powder
  • Steam-distilled hydrosols and essential oils: petals and water, nothing standing in for either
  • Classical recipes: kumkumadi, ubtan, daspushpadi, in proportions we did not invent
  • Small batches: small enough for one person to check each one
61 of our 75 formulas contain no water, so they need no preservative. The 14 that do contain water use one eco-certified preservative, Sensicare, at the minimum effective dose, and say so on the label.

Plant oils and butters

Cold-pressed seed, nut and fruit oils plus unrefined butters. The base of 53 of our 75 products.

74ingredients

Plant-derived functional actives

Actives taken from botanical sources rather than synthesised.

6ingredients

Emulsifiers, surfactants and structurers

Plant-derived processing ingredients that give a cream or wash its texture. Eco-certified where a certification exists.

12ingredients

Preservatives

Only in water-based formulas, and only one: Sensicare, an eco-certified preservative system. Water-free oils, balms and powders carry none.

1ingredient

Saponification and base ingredients

Lye (sodium hydroxide) turns oils into soap. None of it remains unreacted in a finished bar.

5ingredients

Animal-derived ingredients

From bees or dairy. These products are not vegan, and we say so on the label.
