Single-herb powders and two hair-wash combos, shade-dried and finely milled. Read more: how to use amla, reetha and shikakai for hair wash, neem powder face packs and how to use charcoal powder on the face.

How to use herbal powders

Each powder is a single herb, dried and milled, with nothing else added. Mix it with water, curd or one of our oils to make a paste.

For hair, amla, reetha and shikakai are the classic trio. Start with equal parts, about one tablespoon each for shoulder-length hair, in a cup of warm water. Use two parts shikakai for dry hair or two parts reetha for an oily scalp, and add hibiscus for slip. Our two combos save 5% on buying the powders separately. Bhringraj, curry leaf and rosemary powder go into weekly hair packs.

For face packs, neem leaf powder suits oily, blemish-prone skin, charcoal powder draws out oil from congested pores, and rose petal and manjishtha powder suit dull or tired skin. Leave a face pack for 10 to 20 minutes and rinse before it dries completely. Patch-test first.

Questions about herbal powders

How do I use amla, reetha and shikakai powder for hair wash?

Mix one tablespoon each in a cup of warm water and let it stand for 10 minutes, or soak overnight for a stronger wash. Massage into the scalp, work through the lengths, leave 5 to 20 minutes and rinse very thoroughly.

Can I use amla, reetha and shikakai every day?

Two or three times a week suits most hair. Daily washing can leave the lengths dry. An oily scalp can manage more often than dry or curly hair.

Can we soak amla, reetha and shikakai overnight?

Yes. Soaking overnight in warm water gives a stronger wash. Strain it in the morning and use the liquid the same day.

Do amla, reetha and shikakai make hair black?

No herb turns grey hair black. Amla can give hair a little more shine and depth, and hibiscus can leave a faint reddish tint on light hair.

What is rose petal powder used for?

Mostly face packs. Our Rose Petal Powder is ground rose petals and nothing else. Mix it with milk or curd on its own, or half and half with neem to soften a neem pack.

What are the side effects of herbal hair-wash powders?

Reetha and shikakai sting if they get in your eyes, and washing too often can dry the lengths. Patch-test any new powder for 24 hours first.
