Goat milk

What goat milk is, how it is traditionally used, what published studies show and where they fall short, how to use it safely, and which GraceYes products contain it.

Names

Bakri ka doodh (Hindi); Aja dugdha (Sanskrit).

Traditional view

Classical Indian texts discuss goat milk as a food. There is no verified classical source for using it on skin.

What it does in soap

Milk fat makes a richer, creamier bar. It also adds lactose, lactic acid and proteins.

What studies show

Reviews describe the proteins as moisturising and antimicrobial in the lab (PubMed). There are no human trials of goat milk soap. Goat milk soap is still an alkaline true soap.

Safety

One family with eczema developed a goat-milk food allergy after using goat milk soap (PubMed).

GraceYes products that contain it

Goat Milk Soap, Moisture Care Soap, Natural Gangajal Baby Soap, Kumkumadi Face Oil, After Shave Balm.
