Activated bamboo charcoal
What activated bamboo charcoal is, what published studies show and where they fall short, and which GraceYes products contain it.
What it is
Bamboo that has been carbonised and steam-activated. It is a modern material, not a traditional one.
What it does
Its very large surface area adsorbs oil.
What studies show
- Steam-activated bamboo charcoal adsorbed about 27% of its weight in skin-type fats. This was a lab study (PubMed).
- A dermatology review says clinical evidence does not support charcoal treating acne or dandruff (PubMed).
What that means
Charcoal can help absorb surface oil. It does not "detox" skin, draw out toxins or treat acne.
GraceYes products that contain it
Charcoal Soap, Charcoal Powder, Bamboo & Basil Soap.
