Shikakai Powder by GraceYes — Pure Shikakai Powder for Hair Wash, 100 gm

Description

The name translates roughly as fruit for the hair, and generations of Indian households took that literally. Shikakai powder for hair wash is ground Acacia concinna pods, for anyone whose scalp reacts badly to shampoo, or who wants a wash day that does not end in frizz. Shikakai's natural saponins are mild plant cleansers, and they clean at a pH close to hair's own, so the hair surface lies flat instead of roughing up.

Pods are dried and milled to a fine, sandy-soft powder that mixes easily in water or oil and rinses out cleanly; the coarse versions are what put people off shikakai in the first place. No sulphates sneaked in for lather, no silicone afterwards to fake the softness.

How do you use shikakai for hair wash, and can you use it every day? Mix two spoons with warm water into a thin paste, massage into the scalp and lengths, and rinse well, two or three times a week. For more lather, add reetha; for shine, add amla. Keep it away from the eyes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use shikakai for hair wash?

Mix two spoons with warm water into a thin paste, massage it into the scalp and lengths, and rinse very thoroughly. Keep it away from the eyes.

Read the full guide: How to use amla, reetha and shikakai for hair wash (with ratios) →

How long should I leave shikakai on my hair?

You can rinse it after massaging in, or leave it for 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.

How often can I wash my hair with shikakai?

Two or three times a week suits most hair. It cleanses gently rather than stripping, so it stays comfortable even for dry hair.

Read the full guide: How to make shampoo with amla, reetha, shikakai and hibiscus powder (ratio and recipe) →

Can shikakai be mixed with reetha and amla?

Yes, they are the classic trio: reetha for lather, shikakai for softness and amla for shine. Each of ours is single-herb, so you choose the proportions.

Is shikakai good for dry or frizzy hair?

Yes. Its natural saponins clean at a pH close to hair's own, so the hair surface lies flat instead of roughing up. Hair coming off sulphate shampoo may need a few washes to settle.

CautionFor external use only. Avoid direct contact with eyes; rinse thoroughly if contact occurs. Patch test before use. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
