Hibiscus Powder

Description

Gudhal grows in half the gardens in India, and its petals have been going into hair masks for just as long. This hibiscus powder for hair is made only of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis petals, ground fine. It suits dry, rough or frizz-prone hair, and scalps that feel coated after weeks of product. Hibiscus is unusual in doing two jobs at once: its natural fruit acids gently clarify, while its natural slip smooths the hair shaft for shine.

Ours is petal powder, which is why the colour comes out a deep red-pink. It is shade-dried to protect the natural pigments behind that colour, then sifted so it mixes into an easy paste. Single herb, no filler, no borrowed fragrance.

How do you use hibiscus powder for hair growth and shine? Mix two to three spoons with curd, aloe gel or warm water, apply from scalp to ends, and rinse after 30 to 45 minutes, once a week. It also mixes well with amla for extra shine. It may leave a faint reddish tint on very light or coloured hair, so try a strand first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use hibiscus powder for hair?

Mix two to three spoons with water, warm oil or yoghurt into a smooth paste, adding the liquid slowly as it turns gel-like. Apply to the scalp and lengths, leave for 20 to 30 minutes and rinse thoroughly; it also mixes well with amla for extra shine.

Read the full guide: How to make shampoo with amla, reetha, shikakai and hibiscus powder (ratio and recipe) →

How often should hibiscus powder be used?

Once or twice a week as a pre-wash mask. Mixing it with yoghurt or warm oil rather than plain water makes the pack richer for dry hair.

Does hibiscus powder colour hair?

It is not a dye. Its deep red-pink can leave a faint, temporary tint on very light, grey or coloured hair and on towels, so try a strand first.

Does hibiscus powder grow hair?

No hair pack can promise growth. Hibiscus (gudhal) gently clarifies and adds slip and shine; hair fall linked to stress, illness or hormones needs a doctor's advice.

Can hibiscus powder be used on the face?

We pack this powder for hair. For the face, our Face Ubtan combines hibiscus with turmeric, rose and other powders made for skin.

Can hibiscus powder be eaten?

Please do not eat it; we pack it for external hair use only.

CautionFor external use only. Avoid direct contact with eyes; rinse thoroughly if contact occurs. Patch test before use. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
