Amla, reetha, shikakai and hibiscus powder combo by GraceYes, four 100 gm pouches

Description

Everything you need for a homemade herbal shampoo, in four single-herb pouches. Reetha (soapnut) and shikakai do the cleansing with their natural saponins, amla adds shine, and hibiscus brings natural slip and softness, which makes this kit especially good for dry, rough or tangly hair.

Each 100 gm pouch holds one herb and nothing else: no rice flour, fragrance or colour. Mix them fresh with warm water in the ratio that suits your hair. Our guide to amla, reetha and shikakai ratios by hair type shows where to start, and where hibiscus fits in.

Can you use hibiscus with amla, reetha and shikakai together? Yes: add a spoon of hibiscus to the wash mix for softness, or use it on its own as a weekly mask before washing. Hibiscus may leave a faint reddish tint on very light or coloured hair, so try a strand first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use amla reetha shikakai hibiscus powder for hair wash?

Mix 1 tbsp each of reetha, shikakai and amla, plus 1 tsp to 1 tbsp of hibiscus, in 1 cup of warm water and let it stand for 10 minutes. Massage into the scalp, work through the lengths, then rinse very thoroughly, keeping it away from the eyes.

How long should I keep it on my hair?

Leave it on for 5 to 20 minutes, then rinse very thoroughly. Add the water slowly when mixing, as hibiscus turns gel-like.

What ratio should I use with hibiscus?

Start with 1 tbsp each of reetha, shikakai and amla, plus 1 tsp of hibiscus. For dry or frizzy hair, raise hibiscus to 1 tbsp and use 2 parts shikakai; for an oily scalp, use 2 parts reetha and keep hibiscus at 1 tsp.

Can I use amla reetha shikakai daily?

Two or three washes a week suit most hair, and the mix is gentle enough to replace shampoo on those days. Once mixed with water, use it the same day.

Does it make hair black or colour it?

No, none of the four herbs is a dye. Hibiscus can leave a faint, temporary reddish tint on very light or grey hair and on towels, so test one strand first if your hair is light.

What are the side effects of amla reetha shikakai?

Reetha lathers like soap and stings if it gets into the eyes, so rinse carefully. Very dry hair can feel rough if the mix is too strong, which more shikakai and hibiscus usually fixes; for hair fall or scalp problems, please see a doctor.

CautionFor external use only. Keep away from the eyes: reetha and shikakai saponins sting; rinse well with water if contact occurs. Hibiscus can leave a temporary tint on towels or very light hair. Patch test before first use. Store the dry powders in a cool, dry place and use a mixed wash the same day.
